Copenhagen

Firstly, long weekends are the best! I can't wait for A to finish training and have been counting down the days for nearly a year now, but at the same time, I will miss our lovely long leave weekends together.

Recently we decided to make the most of this time together and take a little whirlwind trip to the quirky and beautiful city of Copenhagen. We stayed with some of AN's good friends, GT and JT who were not only the most wonderful hosts, but also proved to be fantastic tour guides. I cannot recommend enough seeing a city with a local, they know all the secret cut-throughs, the best cafes and which tourist traps to avoid.

AN and JT, our lovely host

We only had 2 and a half days in the city so were keen to pack in as much as possible. I was desperate to see the little mermaid, and despite my disappointment as to just how little she turned out to be, she was quite a sight to be seen!

We also visited the round tower, the royal palaces, the king's square, the green church (not an official name) and the famously colourful canal.

By far the craziest place that we visited was the free state of Christiania. Yes, a free state created by a group of hippies in the 70's, which now has legal authority to remain. Visiting this collection of about 40 knocked together houses, clustered around a beautiful lake, was one of the most bizarre moments of my life. It was hard to believe that only a couple of streets away from royal palaces and bustling squares this little community could exist.

Needless to say AN and I did not exactly blend in with the surroundings of Pusher Street, where soft drugs are legal and free love is fully encouraged. It was quite an experience, if nothing else, the artwork and creativity really was very impressive! I mean, one house had been built entirely of picture frames!

Of course we managed to find the army barracks, placed in the middle of a star shaped island....pretty cool! AN was in his element.

One thing I will say, I have never been so cold in my life! Copenhagen was freezing and despite reassurance that it is beautifully sunny in the summer, I couldn't quite imagine not wearing 1,000 layers to wander the city.

I am not sure how but we also found time to squeeze in a hot choc in the Black Diamond, a visit to the old city library, a secret jazz concert, a visit to an art gallery and the biggest Mexican feast.

(Disclaimer, although I loved Copenhagen, I was not such a fan of Danish food.....pickled herring, no thanks! AN and I decided Mexican was the best way to go)

Thanks GT and JT for a magical weekend, we had the best time!

Bath Beauties

A few weeks ago some of my favourite ladies and I had a much overdue reunion in the beautiful town of Bath. You may remember that I was in Bath not so long ago, so I was keen to go back! It's becoming an annual meet-up, which I kind of love.

We spend the afternoon with cups of tea filled to the brim and snuggled on the sofa doing our catch-up. It is always fun to meet up with friends who you haven't seen in ages, and just carry on as if no time has passed, a sign of true friendship.

I am so truly lucky to have such intelligent and talented friends!

It's clear HR is half-way through her maths PHD......the picture of culture and intelligence, as always.

This little one is so caring and is the best listener and advisor. HR (the other HR) has got us all through many a problem over the years with her patience and cutting sense of humour. Good job she is very nearly a qualified social worker!

SH, as always, provided the entertainment and was the most wonderful host. Where else can you get nose snorts, puzzle afternoons and chocolate Baileys?? If any publishing companies are reading this, you NEED to hire this girl, I am telling you, she is a dream.

HC was the (slightly belated) birthday girl of the weekend and her cute little giggle and squeals never fail to make us laugh. She's a high-flyer in the events world don't ya' know?

And then there is LITTLE miss LH, she's a special one. Having travelled the world over the last few months she was back with many a funny story and a glimmer of a holiday romance. Best of all, LH bought us all back presents! Nothing says "I missed you all while I was pissed on a beach in Thailand" like matching pom-pom shorts! Thanks LH your presents were amazing and so thoughtful.

When the tea had been finished we bought out the Baileys, ordered a huge chinese takeaway and exchanged secret santa presents (only a month and a half late). I love my pressies, good choice, my not-so-secret santa SH.

The next day we walked around Bath, following a delicious brunch at my favourite place Bills. SH was a wonderful tour guide, filling our heads with made up facts about the city.

All too soon it was over and we were in the car on the way home, stuck in London traffic and singing our little hearts out to the radio.

Thanks girls for another fantastic weekend, it goes without saying that you are the absolute best!

When in Flaine, and Other Ski Related Stories!

I cannot't believe time has passed so quickly. The last time that I was here in Samoens was a year ago, just before Mama T and Papa T left for Asia. Even crazier, it has been two years since I blogged about this magical place! Samoens is just as wonderful, and this year it looked even more Narnia-like due to the crazy, crazy amount of snow that arrived just before we did.

The pictures speak for themselves, no commentary is needed to describe how beautiful the mountains are. This year, however, the mountains were made even lovelier with the arrival of my girls to share the fun! So, here goes, skiing by numbers.....

3 family members united

4 ski-bums back together

10,0000 hot chocolate breaks, with a generous dollop of whipped cream

5 days (and counting) of non-stop snow/blizzard

1 total wipeout (the most elegant kissing of the snow I have ever seen)

1 million attempts to take a good group photo

6 bottles of wine consumed

37 patisseries and one bowl of porridge

1 spontaneous selfie

3 hours of midnight chats

1 birthday Skype (Happy birthday Mama Di)

1 dodgy ankle + 1 dodgy knee + 1 dodgy back = a trio of skiing cripples

11 plates of frites, covered in ketchup and mayo (why do they always taste so much better up the mountain)

1 stolen ski-pole!

1 vintage bubble lift

1 iced-up beard (Winter is coming!)

3 days of solid laughter, spend with my favourite people in the world! Please can we do it again some time? It really is sno-joke how much I miss you all already.

Mood- Missing everyone already.
