Dancing, Dancing and More Dancing

It's no secret that one of my little loves in life is dancing. I have danced as soon as I could walk and was taken to my first ballet lesson at the age of four, along with all the other four-year old girls in the world. What can I say, it is a love affair that has lasted a life time. Sadly, my dancing enthusiasm is not matched by my abilities, but I like to think I have picked up a few skills along the way. I have continued to dance at university and recently (well back in February....its been a tough few months) I was part of the incredible dance society annual show!

Dance has been such a fundamental part of my university life, it has kept me motivated and I have met some of the most incredible and talented people. I will really miss dancing with this lovely lot and will cherish all the wonderful memories we have had this year. Competitions, socials, shows, classes, balls and just showing people how it's done on the dance show, you guys are the best!

This one is for you my wonderful dance society lovelies!

Bath Beauties

Last weekend I was reunited with the wonderful dance girls in the beautiful town of Bath. Being back at uni is just not the same without these girls and so weekends like this remind me how special they are and how much fun we have together. SH was the hostess with the most-ess and welcomed us all with big fat cuddles and endless supplies of food, she knows the way to our hearts! After a good old catch-up and exchanging of belated birthday gifts (thank you!) we headed out into town for dinner. Sadly I was far too busy enjoying the incredible cocktails and wine that I forgot to take photos of dinner, nevertheless I can reassure you that it was delicious!

And any restaurant with this motto is a winner in my book!

The next morning, we all packed into the car and headed out on the SH driving tour of Bath. Due to the slight drizzle we decided that going by car was by far the best way to see the city, despite being a little lazy. We visited the Crescent, the Circus, the Pump Room and the Abby as well as the loveliest little bridge across the river. Bath is honestly one of the prettiest towns I have ever visited and I cannot believe that I hadn't visited before. One thing is for sure, I will be back, especially as we didn't have the time to visit the spa, which is apparently amazing.

Thank you girlies for a wonderful weekend of cocktails, presents, gossiping, hump-back whale impressions, cake, board games and all round dance committee fun! Go team!

The Blitz Ball

Last week the beautiful IL and I got all dolled up and put on our glad-rags for a fun filled evening of war-time frivolity. The blitz ball is an annual event at my university and it is one of my favourite nights of the entire year! I love that everybody puts so much effort into looking the part, with vintage dresses, fur coats, rouged lips and carefully rolled hair. NT was wonderful and helped us to roll our hair with the classic victory rolls donned by all the best 1940's pin-up girls.

Hair prepped, lipstick applied we rushed off to find a few handsome soldiers. There is nothing quite like a man in uniform to send a girl's heart a flutter, on that I think we can all agree.

The great hall was decked out with union jack bunting, war time posters and other war-time treats to really set the scene. The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the incredible band who played for hours and really got people onto the dance floor. We had a fabulous time dancing the night away, largely helped by the fact that the drinks were not rationed! The night ended with a rousing chorus of Jerusalem until soldiers, sailors, land girls and air-raid wardens rushed off into the night and back to the present.

I am more than upset that this was my last blitz ball but I have a sneaky suspicion that I might pop back next year!

Le Moulin Rouge

I have a mental list of things I need to achieve before I die/ make it to thirty/ leave Paris/ get married etc. Basically I am a list maker. All my lists included seeing the cancan performed at the Moulin Rouge and recently I was able to cross this off my list with a big fat mental tick. Cliched, yes, touristy, yes, amazing, definitely yes! What made this even better was the fact that I was invited by a friend who is also a dancer at the Moulin itself. E and I quickly settled ourselves into the red velvet plushy chairs and prepared ourselves to be amazed, and amazed we were. Beautiful dancers with endlessly long legs and dazzling costumes jumped and twirled creating an incredible spectacle of decadence and naughtiness. The dancing was punctuated with brilliantly funny acts, including a talking dog, acrobats and the best juggling I have ever seen. I think you have to see it to believe it, but this isn't just your average circus stuff, oh no, this is performance and entertainment to its best. The highlight for me was undoubtably the cancan, seeing girls kicking, flipping and jumping to the quintessential French song just about made me the happiest girl alive, the only thing missing was of course Ewan McGregor. I have to say, the flowing champagne probably added to the experience as well!

Thank you A for inviting us to watch you dance and for making a life-long dream come true. You're the best!
